- Advocate of the High Court, Mr Mbobu, was gunned down in a drive-by on 9 September 2025.
- LSK president Faith Odhiambo condemned the killing as a premeditated attack.
- Mbobu had chaired the Political Parties Dispute Tribunal and lectured at the University of Nairobi.
- LSK raised an alarm over rising insecurity targeting lawyers in Kenya.
Mr Mbobu, a senior advocate with more than 30 years in practice, was shot dead on 9 September 2025 in Nairobi. The attacker sped away on a motorcycle, leaving the legal fraternity in shock.
Law Society of Kenya (LSK) president Faith Odhiambo described the killing as a deliberate act.
“The legal profession mourns a distinguished member of dedicated service and demonstrable legal excellence,” she said.
She added that the profession was deeply grieved by the loss of a scholar who had shaped law, governance, and legal education.
Mbobu previously chaired the Political Parties Dispute Tribunal and taught at the University of Nairobi. He was widely respected for his expertise in evidence law and his mentorship of young lawyers.
LSK linked the murder to a worrying trend of violence against advocates handling sensitive matters.
“The effective discharge of constitutional functions by advocates requires an environment free of fear and persecution. We decry this detestable act and demand that the perpetrators be hunted down and brought to book,” Ms Odhiambo said.
The society urged the Directorate of Criminal Investigations to launch urgent investigations and called on the government to address what it termed “calamitous levels of insecurity.”
Mr Mbobu’s killing has reignited debate on the safety of advocates in Kenya. Many lawyers often handle politically charged and high-stakes cases, putting them at risk of intimidation and violence.
