- Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) Special Forces neutralised five Al Shabaab fighters in Lacta Mangai, deep inside Boni Forest.
- The operation was part of Operation Amani Boni (OAB), targeting militant hideouts.
- Weapons, explosives, and supplies were recovered from the camp.
According to KDF, the elite unit raided a makeshift Al Shabaab camp following days of intelligence tracking. A fierce exchange of fire left five militants dead, while several others escaped with injuries.
The soldiers seized a major cache that included: AK-47 rifles, RPG launchers with warheads, ammunition, Solar panels & tents, Materials for making improvised explosive devices (IEDs)
In a statement, KDF assured locals that the mission is ongoing:
“Operation Amani Boni remains dedicated to ensuring families in the area live without fear. We urge citizens to stay vigilant and report suspicious activities.”
This success comes months after a deadly May 2025 incident in Lehelo, Lamu, where five Special Operations Group officers were killed in an ambush by militants. Several others were injured and airlifted to Nairobi.
Police say militants in the region remain heavily armed and often intimidate locals against cooperating with security forces, posing continued risks to communities.
The latest victory marks a significant step in weakening Al Shabaab networks in Boni Forest, but the battle to secure the region is far from over.
