Borussia Dortmund have completed the signing of England youth international Carney Chukwuemeka from Chelsea in a deal that could rise to £24 million.
The 21-year-old midfielder, who joined the Blues from Aston Villa in 2022 for £20 million, spent the second half of last season on loan in Germany. His performances convinced Dortmund to secure his services on a permanent five-year deal.
Chukwuemeka’s departure takes Chelsea’s summer sales past £270 million, nearly matching the £277 million spent on new arrivals.
UEFA has warned the club that it must record a positive transfer balance this window to register new signings for the Champions League.
The club was previously fined £26.7 million for breaching financial regulations and recorded a squad cost ratio above 80%, far higher than UEFA’s threshold.
Chelsea is still looking to offload several players before Monday’s transfer deadline. Those linked with exits include: Nicolas Jackson, Christopher Nkunku, Tyrique Georg, Raheem Sterling, Ben Chilwell
Meanwhile, the Blues have also been connected with possible moves for Manchester United winger Alejandro Garnacho and RB Leipzig’s Xavi Simons.
Defender Aaron Anselmino has also sealed a move to Dortmund on loan from Chelsea. The young Argentine has already flown to Germany to finalise the agreement and join the squad.
