Former deputy president and Democracy for Citizens Party leader Rigathi Gachagua has warned that he will go after those he accuses of tormenting him once he wins power in 2027.
Speaking on Citizen TV, Gachagua said he had been attacked seven times, but no suspect had ever been arrested or charged.
The ex-DP accused the police leadership of protecting attackers and being used by the state to frustrate him politically.
“For the seven times I have been attacked, not a single suspect has been arrested. This shows the impunity that continues to thrive,” he said.
Gachagua urged officers to resist “unlawful orders,” claiming the National Police Service is not independent.
He linked his recent airport drama to what he described as a government-backed assassination attempt.
“They wanted to kill me at Pipeline; I escaped death by a whisker. What Murkomen should know is that if he had killed me, there would be no country, there would be a civil war,” he claimed.
According to him, police in civilian clothing, aided by hired goons, attempted to attack him during his arrival at JKIA.
Gachagua said he could not seek justice from state agencies since they were “under President Ruto’s control.” He accused Ruto and Interior CS Kipchumba Murkomen of using the police for political persecution, warning they could one day face the ICC.
The ex-DP has also drawn controversy in recent weeks after alleging that President Ruto is doing business with rebel groups in East Africa and al-Shabaab.
Interior CS Murkomen dismissed Gachagua’s remarks as “reckless” and advised him to present evidence to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) instead of making public accusations.
Upon his return to Nairobi from a month-long U.S. trip, clashes broke out between Gachagua’s supporters and police along Mombasa Road, causing heavy traffic disruption.
His party, the Democracy for Citizens Party, condemned the incident, accusing the government of deliberately targeting its members.
