- FKF boss Hussein Mohammed confirmed Harambee Stars got Ksh253M.
- Ksh21M paid as allowances (FKF + government).
- Ksh232M bonuses came from President Ruto.
- Allowances covered players in the July and August camps.
- Kenya crashed out in the quarterfinals after losing to Madagascar on penalties.
Football Kenya Federation (FKF) President Hussein Mohammed has revealed that the Harambee Stars players collectively shared a total of Ksh 253 million during the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN).
He explained that Ksh21 million was allocated for allowances, while Ksh232 million came in as bonuses, courtesy of President William Ruto.
Mohammed said the government normally covers the allowances of 24 players, with FKF paying for the extra three.
“Allowances were settled in July and August while the team was in camp. From FKF, we gave about Ksh21 million, while the rest came from bonuses given by the President for each win and draw,” he said.
The largest share of the payout came directly from the state House. President Ruto rewarded the players with Ksh232 million in bonuses during the competition, a move Mohammed described as a huge morale boost for the team.
Despite the big earnings, Kenya’s journey in the CHAN 2024 tournament ended in heartbreak. Harambee Stars were eliminated in the quarterfinals by Madagascar at the Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani.
The match ended 1-1 after normal and extra time, before Madagascar sealed the win in penalties, booking their spot in the semifinals.
