- He was arrested between Sobea and Westlands through a joint effort by KeNHA’s ALEHU-SRT unit and Salgaa base, aided by public vigilance.
- The suspect received a custodial sentence with no option of a fine.
- KeNHA urged Kenyans to protect road infrastructure and report vandalism through its hotline 0800211244.
The man was caught red-handed damaging road signs along the busy stretch between Sobea and Westlands. KeNHA’s ALEHU-SRT unit, working closely with the Salgaa base and members of the public, coordinated the arrest.
He was swiftly prosecuted and handed a three-year custodial sentence with no option of a fine, underscoring the seriousness of the offence.
KeNHA commended the public for playing a role in safeguarding highways and urged vigilance against vandalism.
“We urge all Kenyans to protect road furniture and report any acts of vandalism,” KeNHA said in a statement, noting that destruction of highway property endangers lives and drains public funds through costly repairs.
Vandalism of road signs has long been a challenge on Kenyan highways. Missing or destroyed signage undermines road safety by depriving drivers of essential information.
Authorities believe the stiff jail term should act as a deterrent to those planning similar offences.
The public has been encouraged to report such acts to the nearest police station, any KeNHA office, or via the toll-free hotline 0800211244.
