  • A Finnish MP has died inside the Parliament in Helsinki.
  • Police confirmed the incident is being treated as a suicide.
  • Emergency services rushed to the scene but could not save the politician.
  • Authorities say no criminal involvement is suspected.

A Finnish politician died inside the Parliament building in Helsinki on Monday, with police confirming the death as a suspected suicide. Emergency services were quickly dispatched to the scene after reports of a medical emergency inside the chamber.

Police later announced that the matter was being investigated as a case of death but confirmed there were no signs of foul play.

“Police are handling the situation. There does not appear to be any criminal involvement,” officials stated.

The building’s Security Director, Aaro Toivonen, said emergency protocols were activated immediately after the incident.

“A mission is underway, with rescue authorities, police, and emergency services on the scene. I can’t say more than that at this stage,” Toivonen told Yle.

Residents and workers near the Parliament reported hearing several ambulances leave the scene with sirens blaring. One witness, Jussi Seppälä, said he was startled by the sudden rush of emergency vehicles outside his office.

The Speaker of Parliament, Jussi Halla-aho, refrained from making a personal statement and instead referred the public to the official communication issued by the police.
