- CAF fines Kenya USD 50,000 (approx. KSh 6.5 million) for safety and security lapses.
- Harambee Stars’ home matches risk being moved abroad if issues persist.
- Stadium attendance is capped at 27,000 for all upcoming fixtures.
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has fined Kenya USD 50,000, about KSh 6.5 million, after finding multiple safety and security breaches during recent international matches.
CAF’s disciplinary board warned that if the safety issues continue, Harambee Stars could be forced to play their home games at a neutral venue outside Kenya. This comes as a major blow to local fans hoping to support the team at Kasarani Stadium.
This is not the first time Kenya has been sanctioned. In a previous incident, CAF fined the country KSh 1.9 million following lapses during the opening 2024 CHAN match against the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
As part of the latest sanction, attendance at all Harambee Stars home matches has been capped at 27,000 spectators, including the upcoming Sunday clash against Zambia. CAF stressed that safety measures are non-negotiable to protect players, officials, and supporters.
“The safety and security of everyone in the stadium must be guaranteed,” CAF emphasised in its decision.
