  • Sudan shocks Nigeria with a 4–0 victory in Zanzibar.
  • Own goal and a penalty by Leonard Ngenge handed Sudan an early lead.
  • Abdel Raouf Yagoub scores twice in the second half.
  • Nigeria was eliminated from Group D with a game to go.

Zanzibar witnessed a major upset as Sudan routed Nigeria 4–0, topping Group D and knocking the Super Eagles out of CHAN Pamoja 2024 with a game to spare. The scoring began in the 25th minute when Leonard Ngenge accidentally put the ball in his net. Moments later, a handball by Ngenge led to a penalty, which captain Walieldin Khdir calmly converted.

Sudan’s Abdel Raouf Yagoub then took control in the second half, netting twice (56’, 62’) to finish a disciplined and clinical performance. The team remained compact in defence and precise in attack, leaving Nigeria struggling to respond.

Nigeria started strong, pressing high and creating early chances. Anthony Ijoma thought he had scored in the 22nd minute, but VAR ruled it offside. Despite three substitutions at half-time, the Super Eagles could not break through. A header by Steven Manyo and a long-range strike by Raymond Tochukwu both failed to find the net.

With this win, Sudan matches holders Senegal on four points, while Congo has two. Nigeria finishes at the bottom with zero points and a minus-five goal difference. Sudan now prepares for a top-of-the-table clash against Senegal, and Nigeria face Congo in a game of pride.

For Sudan coach Kwesi Appiah, it was a statement victory, demonstrating tactical discipline and composure. For Nigeria, it marks a night to forget and an early exit from the tournament.
