  • Fans with “valid” tickets were blocked from the Kenya vs Morocco CHAN 2024 match.
  • Duplicate tickets sold by rogue vendors are blamed for confusion.
  • Leaders call for FKF ticketing overhaul and anti-corruption measures.
  • Near-stampede as frustrated fans tried scaling fences.
  • CAF has already fined FKF KSh2.5M for poor crowd control.

Sunday’s CHAN 2024 clash between Kenya and Morocco at Kasarani turned into a nightmare for many fans. Hundreds, some holding what appeared to be genuine tickets, were denied entry after their passes showed that they had already been scanned. Many said they unknowingly bought duplicates from rogue sellers who reportedly hoard tickets and resell them multiple times.

Former nominated MP Wilson Sossion told Citizen TV that the chaos revealed deep flaws in FKF’s systems. He urged a total ticketing overhaul, saying corruption and inefficiency are draining revenue and harming the sport’s growth. Kajiado North MP Onesmus Ngogoyo added that alternative fan solutions, like public viewing areas, could ease stadium overcrowding.

Frustrations boiled over when some locked-out fans tried climbing the stadium fence, creating a near-stampede. Security breaches were reported despite a heavy police presence. CAF, which had already fined FKF KSh2.5 million for poor crowd control, has warned of tougher sanctions if such incidents repeat during the tournament.

Attention has now shifted to the ticket black market thriving outside Kasarani. Critics say that unless FKF tightens controls, scams and dangerous crowd situations will continue, risking Kenya’s image as CHAN co-host alongside Uganda and Tanzania.
