President William Ruto has pledged a record Ksh600 million cash prize to the Harambee Stars if they win the ongoing CHAN 2024 tournament. The bold promise was made to boost morale as Kenya prepares for its opening group matches.

Speaking during a rallying call to the national team, Ruto also announced additional rewards for earlier stages. The team will pocket Ksh60 million if they reach the quarterfinals and Ksh70 million for making it to the semifinals.

“Every win will earn each player Ksh1 million. A draw will still count—each of you will get Ksh500,000,” Ruto said.

The Harambee Stars are set to face the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) on August 2, followed by a clash against tournament giants Morocco. At least one win from the two games is crucial to keep their CHAN dream alive.

The squad is captained by experienced fullback Aboud Omar, who is expected to lead from the front as the team chases its first CHAN title.

Ruto urged the players to make the country proud, expressing confidence that the team has what it takes to make history on home soil.

“We believe in you. Go make Kenya proud,” said Ruto.

With such high stakes, the nation’s eyes are firmly on Harambee Stars as CHAN 2024 kicks off.
