The government has handed Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi the task of leading the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) campaigns in the upcoming Malava Constituency by-election. This comes after the seat fell vacant following the death of MP Malulu Injendi.

Speaking to more than 100 clan elders drawn from 29 Kabras clans, Mudavadi said the campaign would prioritise the needs of the people and promised to walk with them every step of the way.

“Until a new MP is elected, I will act as your Patron in Malava,” he said.

Mudavadi called on residents to reject leaders who use divisive tactics, saying Malava deserves a dependable leader who can work closely with the government. He said leadership should be about real service, not drama.

“Let us move away from theatrics and focus on integrity. Malava needs a visionary,” he added.

While acknowledging the cultural role of clans in Kabras, Mudavadi warned against using them as political tools. He emphasised that unity and service delivery should guide voters, not tribal loyalty.

“Let us not use clans to divide or to loot. Our communities deserve better,” he said.

Clan leaders led by Alphose Masinde and Harrison Webbo presented key community demands, including better roads, water access, school development, and new administrative units. Mudavadi assured them that action was already underway.

He revealed that he had contacted Roads CS Davis Chirchir and Interior CS Kipchumba Murkomen to fast-track services for the area.

“We are listening, and we’re working to bring services closer to the people,” he said.

Mudavadi also announced plans to hold more meetings with youth, women, churches, farmers, and traders to ensure every voice is heard in the by-election process.

Other leaders present included UDA Vice Chair Kelvin Lunani, MPs Fred Ikana (Shinyalu), and Beatrice Adagala (Vihiga).

As the by-election nears, Mudavadi’s front-line role shows UDA’s determination to hold ground in Malava, a constituency viewed as a key test for the ruling party’s influence in Western Kenya.
