Police in Kilifi have uncovered what is believed to be a reawakening of cult activity deep inside Chakama Forest. Four people, three women and one man, were pulled out of a secluded mud house on a remote section of Chakama Ranch. All appeared physically frail and mentally disoriented.

A few metres from the house, police stumbled upon the body of a man believed to have died earlier, alongside two human skulls. Investigators suspect the remains were left exposed and likely scavenged by wild animals.

According to reports, two of the rescued individuals had been reported missing in April at Siaya Police Station. They vanished in March, together with six children who are still nowhere to be found. Their connection to the discovered hideout has intensified concerns of a much deeper operation.

Police were alerted by residents who had observed unusual activities in Minzaro Village. Officers responded swiftly and launched an operation that led them to the disturbing find within a dense five-acre section of the forest.

Authorities have now secured the entire area as a crime scene. Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) are expected to launch forensic analysis and dig deeper into what may be another case of religious radicalisation gone deadly.

This shocking discovery brings back memories of the 2023 Shakahola incident, where over 400 lives were lost due to cultic fasting. The Chakama case now raises new questions about how many more such groups may still be operating in silence.

The rescued individuals are currently receiving care at Malindi Sub-County Hospital. Doctors say they were malnourished and mentally disturbed. Meanwhile, the search for the missing children continues as the investigation unfolds.

Authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward as efforts intensify to prevent another mass tragedy.
