Kenya and Ukraine have renewed their partnership in a virtual high-level political consultation held Monday, marking the third round of such talks. Amb co-chaired the meeting. Josephat K. Maikara of Kenya’s Foreign Affairs Ministry and Ukraine’s Special Representative for the Middle East and Africa, Maksym Subkh.

Discussions covered a wide array of sectors, including agriculture, education, medical cooperation, technology, and regional peace and security.

Despite the ongoing war and repeated attacks on Ukrainian ports, Subkh emphasised that Ukraine remains a key global food supplier.

“Despite attacks on our ports and grain facilities, Ukraine continues to supply food through a secure sea corridor, reaffirming our role as a guarantor of global food security, especially for Africa,” Subkh stated.

Ukraine proposed intensified collaboration between the agriculture ministries of both countries and their business sectors to boost food trade and resilience.

Kenya, on its part, invited Ukrainian businesses to explore opportunities in its Special Economic Zones and take advantage of Nairobi’s tech and logistics capabilities. Ukrainian officials lauded Kenya’s mobile money systems and tech leadership in East Africa.

The two countries also agreed to increase cooperation in tackling cyberattacks and disinformation, especially campaigns linked to foreign influence operations. This came alongside Kenya’s strong restatement of its support for Ukraine’s sovereignty amid the war with Russia.

Kenya reiterated its “firm stance on respect for sovereignty and the UN Charter,” and affirmed Ukraine’s territorial integrity.

Both governments resolved to pursue more bilateral agreements, enhance high-level official visits, and open new pathways for collaboration across economic and strategic sectors.
