The Kenyan football fraternity is reeling from the sudden death of Fortune Sacco FC head coach Sylvester Odero, who passed away on Monday, July 14, following a tragic road accident.
Odero, who joined the Kirinyaga-based club in April 2025, had already made a significant impact in a short period. Under his guidance, Fortune Sacco FC finished fifth in the just-concluded 2024/25 National Super League (NSL).
The club confirmed his passing in a heartbreaking post shared on X:
“We are devastated, shocked, and heartbroken to confirm that our dear coach Sylvester Odero has passed away after a road accident. Out of words. Life is so unfair and unpredictable.”
Odero held a CAF B Coaching License and was highly regarded for his tactical acumen, leadership, and professionalism. He was also known for nurturing talent and fostering discipline and unity in the dressing room.
Clubs across the NSL and wider football community have sent messages of condolence and praise: Nairobi United described him as “a charismatic leader and one of the best coaches in this country.”Mwea United FC mourned the loss of “more than just a tactician—he was a mentor and a friend.”University of Embu, Queens FC and Kiminini United also expressed sorrow, citing his positive influence both on and off the pitch.
