Police in Nambale, Busia County, are searching for a Ugandan herbalist accused of tricking residents out of over KSh1.7 million in just three weeks.

The man, identified as Kiisa Hakim, is believed to have posed as Dr. Paul Okello Odhiambo, a well-known herbalist who is now the MCA for Amukura Central in Teso South.

Using old YouTube clips and pictures of Okello from his herbalist days, the suspect reportedly built a fake online persona and used it to attract clients with promises of miracle cures and good fortune.

According to investigators, the fraudster operated mainly through social media, where he shared fabricated testimonials and clips of the real Okello’s past herbal work, going by the alias “Mula Nyasi.”

Dozens of residents, thinking they were dealing with the real MCA, sent money in exchange for herbal products or traditional healing, which never arrived.

Reports indicate that once some victims began asking questions, the suspect allegedly warned them not to report him, claiming he would unleash a magic snake if they spoke out.

Police sources say the man is originally from Mbale, Uganda, and had once been arrested but was freed on police bail of KSh15,000 before he vanished.

The real MCA, Dr. Paul Okello, has confirmed the impersonation and says he is shocked at how the suspect misused his name.

“It is shocking to learn that the Ugandan went on my YouTube account, downloaded my photos and videos from my herbalist days, and used them to create a fake account to con people.” Paul Okello, MCA, Amukura Central

With new complaints filed at various police stations across Busia, authorities have reopened the investigation and are urging anyone with information on the suspect’s whereabouts to come forward.

The manhunt is ongoing, and residents are being warned to stay alert and verify identities before paying for any services online.
