  • Demands include elections, an audit committee, and open books
  • Protesters vow not to reopen the church until their calls are heard

Drama unfolded outside the African Independent Pentecostal Church of Africa (AIPCA) Kayole branch early Sunday when members of the congregation barricaded the entrance with ballast and stones, bringing all church activity to a standstill.

What was supposed to be a peaceful morning service turned chaotic as furious congregants padlocked the gates and kept out clergy and worshippers alike.

Speaking to the media, several church members expressed deep anger over poor leadership, unchecked power, and the constant demand for money without proper explanations.

“We built this church from mabati to brick, yet now we are shut out. They just want our money, no questions allowed,” said Francis Mbichi, a long-time congregant.

Another protester added, “This place is worse than the government. There are no elections, no reports, just endless offerings and silence.”

The protesting members accused church leaders of refusing to leave office, dodging financial audits, and running the institution like a private entity. The lack of transparency, they say, has gone on for too long.

According to insiders, complaints have been made before, but they were allegedly brushed aside or silenced, triggering this latest bold action.

The group is now demanding: Fresh leadership elections, Formation of an interim financial audit committee, and Public release of the church’s financial records

Until these demands are met, they insist the church will remain locked.

By Sunday evening, no official statement had been released by the AIPCA Kayole leadership. However, it is understood that the police have been notified about the incident and are monitoring the situation.

As the standoff continues, tensions remain high, with the congregation demanding accountability in what they now view as not just a spiritual institution, but one in desperate need of reform.
