In a passionate statement, Raila Odinga has called on Kenyans to reflect on the true spirit of Saba Saba, highlighting that the country has yet to achieve the intended change. Speaking ahead of the commemoration on July 7, 2025, Odinga emphasized the ongoing struggles facing the nation, including human rights violations, police brutality, and economic hardships.

“We have not achieved what Saba Saba intended. Violations of human rights are still a challenge in the country, police brutality is there, and the economy has not performed as we expected.”

Odinga reminded the public that Saba Saba was not only a day of remembrance but one meant to bring people together for a common cause for change. He reaffirmed his commitment to pushing for reforms and justice, stressing the need for unity in the face of ongoing challenges.

“Saba Saba was meant to bring people together for a common cause: change! My idea is to call the people and go to Kamukunji, the first place where Saba Saba took place.”

The former Prime Minister also made it clear that he would be present at Kamukunji, the historic site where many fought for political freedom, to honour those who lost their lives during the struggle. His message resonated with many who still believe the ideals of Saba Saba remain unfulfilled.

“I will be attending the Saba Saba at Kamukunji to remember those who were killed.”

Odinga’s call comes amid heightened political tensions, as citizens prepare for protests demanding accountability and reforms. His message remains clear: the fight for justice and change is ongoing, and the true spirit of Saba Saba must continue to guide the country forward.

As Kenyans reflect on the significance of Saba Saba, all eyes are now on the commemoration at Kamukunji, where history and hope for change will once again collide.
