A federal court on Wednesday delivered a split verdict in the case against music mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs, clearing him of the high-profile sex trafficking and racketeering conspiracy charges but convicting him on two serious counts linked to the transportation of individuals for prostitution.

The ruling came after a seven-week trial filled with emotional testimonies from 34 witnesses, including former partners, ex-employees, and music insiders. The jury deliberated for several days before returning a mixed decision that has since ignited fierce public debate.

Federal prosecutors claimed Combs used his wealth and power in the music industry to run a hidden network fueled by manipulation and abuse. They argued that behind the fame was a pattern of exploiting young women under the guise of lavish parties and music deals.

Two central witnesses, singer Cassie Ventura and another woman referred to as “Jane”, told the court they were flown across state lines under pressure, sometimes for drug-fueled sexual encounters allegedly organised and surveilled by Combs.

Despite the graphic claims, the jury concluded that the evidence didn’t meet the bar for the sex trafficking or racketeering charges. However, Combs was convicted under the Mann Act, a federal law that makes it illegal to transport individuals for unlawful sexual activity.

Each of the two convictions under the Mann Act carries a maximum sentence of 10 years, meaning Combs could face up to 20 years behind bars. He remains in federal custody, where he has been held since September 2024, awaiting sentencing in the coming weeks by Judge Arun Subramanian.

Outside the courthouse, a mix of protesters and supporters made their voices heard. While some argue the acquittals clear Combs’ name, others say the guilty verdicts reflect deep-rooted misconduct that must be reckoned with.

The outcome has reignited conversations online about power, abuse, and accountability in the entertainment world, with activists calling for more transparency and support for survivors.
