  • Anti-Corruption Court gives one-month break in the Sh505M graft case
  • EACC and ODPP say they’re deep in talks with the accused
  • The court says this is the last delay—if talks fail, the trial must start
  • Case set to be mentioned again on July 21, 2025
  • Obado, his children, and others were accused of looting Migori funds

The high-profile case involving former Migori Governor Okoth Obado and others has been delayed for a month. The court allowed the break to give room for ongoing discussions aimed at ending the matter without a full trial.

The joint request came from both the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) and the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP), who told the judge they were close to a possible plea bargain agreement with the accused.

The Anti-Corruption Court agreed to the request but made it clear—this is the final adjournment. If the negotiations break down, the trial will begin right away, and no more extensions will be allowed.

The new court date is now set for July 21, 2025. By then, both sides must either confirm that the deal is done or show they’re ready to go to trial.

The case has captured a lot of public interest due to the amount of money involved and the political weight behind it. Obado, his four children, and several others are accused of stealing more than Sh505 million during his time as governor.

The charges point to embezzlement of county funds, a matter that has triggered political discussions and public outcry since it was first brought to court.
