- Nairobi United upset giants Gor Mahia with a 2–1 win in the FKF Cup final.
- Frank Ouya and Enock Machaka scored the goals that sealed a historic victory.
- Ernest Muhammad saved a late penalty to protect the lead.
- The NSL champions will now represent Kenya in the CAF Confederation Cup.
Nairobi United kicked off the final like a team with nothing to lose. Just six minutes in, Frank Ouya acrobatically flipped in a loose ball after Gor Mahia’s defence failed to deal with a long throw. The opener sparked wild celebrations on the Nairobi United bench — it was clear they hadn’t come just to watch.
But Gor Mahia, the record FKF champions, weren’t going to roll over easily. They slowly found their rhythm and got their reward in the 37th minute when Ben Stanley Omondi slotted in a low shot after a scramble in the box. The equaliser shifted momentum Gor’s way just before the break.
The game tightened after halftime. Both sides looked cautious, and chances were few. In the 67th minute, Nairobi United’s goalkeeper Ernest Muhammad gave Gor fans a scare when he spilt a free-kick, but his defenders were quick to clean up.
Then came the goal that changed everything. With space opening up, Enock Machaka controlled the ball just outside the centre circle, took one look, and let fly. The shot flew past Gor’s keeper Kevin Omondi like a bullet. It was a goal that silenced the K’Ogalo faithful — and one that will be remembered for years.
Gor Mahia had one last big chance to force extra time. In the 86th minute, they won a penalty after Austin Odhiambo was brought down. Alpha Onyango stepped up, but Muhammad — who had looked shaky earlier — guessed right and saved it. That moment sealed the win.
When the final whistle blew at Ulinzi Sports Complex, it wasn’t just the end of a match — it was the start of a new chapter. Nairobi United, fresh from winning the NSL, had now beaten Kenya’s most successful club to claim their first major trophy. They’ll now represent the country in the CAF Confederation Cup — a dream few thought possible at the start of the season.
