- Governor Cecily Mbarire has accused ex-Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua of funding violence during recent demos in Embu.
- She claimed the protests were not genuine but carefully planned to disrupt peace and leadership in the county.
- Mbarire believes the chaos was linked to a political event held alongside the launch of a new party.
- She now wants national agencies like DCI to investigate and take action against the masterminds.
Governor Cecily Mbarire has spoken out strongly against the recent youth-led demonstrations in Embu and Kiritiri. Addressing the press midweek, she claimed the protests were far from spontaneous — instead, she believes they were staged and manipulated by political players trying to sabotage her leadership.
She blamed the destruction and unrest on a well-coordinated plan.
While inspecting vandalised property, Mbarire openly accused former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua of being behind the disruption. She claimed the scheme to cause chaos was set in motion during a political gathering held recently in Embu town.
According to her, it wasn’t just ordinary protesters — she alleged that goons were hired and sent with clear instructions to stir unrest.
Political Games Threatening Embu’s Stability
Mbarire warned that the situation had moved beyond just youth expressing frustration. In her view, what’s now happening is a direct attempt to destabilise county operations and chase away development opportunities.
She made it clear she won’t tolerate moves meant to shake investor confidence or paralyse public services.
Calling the protests politically motivated, Mbarire urged institutions like the DCI to dig deeper into those behind the violence. She insisted that those giving orders from behind the scenes must face the consequences.
Her appeal was both a warning and a demand for justice.
