KCB Football Club has appointed veteran coach Robert Matano to lead the team into the upcoming FKF Premier League campaign. This move signals a fresh chapter for the bankers, who are keen to bounce back stronger after a mid-table finish last season.
Matano, who recently coached in Tanzania, is no stranger to Kenyan football and returns with a solid background of winning and team-building.
While speaking during his unveiling event at Kencom, Nairobi, Matano expressed deep excitement and purpose. He made it clear that his mission goes beyond participation — he wants to build a competitive, winning team.
“I’m proud to be part of KCB FC,” said Matano. “This club has vision, support, and the right environment. We’re here to compete seriously and bring success.”
Alongside Matano is the experienced John Njogu, who joins the team as a trainer. Known in the local football circles for his work ethic and sharp eye for detail, Njogu will support Matano in pushing the team to greater heights.
The new coaching team is expected to inject fresh ideas and discipline as they prepare for a better run in the coming season.
Club Leadership Backs the Move
KCB FC patron Azu Ogolla welcomed Matano’s appointment, calling it a new dawn for the club. He highlighted Matano’s past success and leadership as exactly what the team needs.
“We are entering a new phase,” said Ogolla. “Coach Matano brings experience and a champion’s mindset. This is the kind of leadership that can transform our future.”
Known for nurturing young talent and demanding high standards, Matano has guided many players to national and international stages. His method of developing youth, maintaining discipline, and instilling mental strength mirrors KCB’s long-term goals.
His arrival is expected to bring stability and growth, both on and off the pitch.
KCB FC, which ended the 2024/25 campaign in 9th place with 42 points, is now undergoing a full transformation. From coaching to the playing squad, every department is being restructured.
With Robert Matano now leading the charge, the club is targeting nothing short of a strong title push when the new season kicks off.
