Kenya Power has officially confirmed the death of one of its security guards, who was shot by a police officer at the entrance of one of its offices. The incident, which occurred earlier today, has shocked staff and members of the public.
According to the company’s brief statement, the guard was on duty at the gate when he was fatally shot under unclear circumstances. He died at the scene.
“We are deeply saddened by the tragic loss of our colleague who was shot at the entrance of our premises,” read part of a statement from Kenya Power. “We send our heartfelt condolences to the family, friends, and colleagues during this difficult time.”
The company also assured the public that it is fully cooperating with investigating authorities to uncover what exactly transpired.
Police have since taken over the case, with detectives from the DCI reportedly already on site. The officer said to have fired the fatal shot is expected to be questioned as part of the probe.
No Eyewitnesses, including fellow guards and staff members who were nearby, are also being interviewed to piece together the moments leading up to the shooting.
The killing has sparked anger among Kenyans online, with many demanding swift justice and transparency from the police. Human rights groups have also condemned the act, calling for the Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) to intervene.
