Kenya will make history this August as Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani, plays host to the final of the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN). The Confederation of African Football (CAF) confirmed on Thursday that the 55,000-seater stadium will host the championship match on August 30, 2025.

This will be the first time in decades that Kenya hosts such a prestigious continental football final—an achievement that is hailed as a major leap forward for Kenyan football.

Originally set for 2024, the CHAN tournament was pushed to 2025 and will now run from August 2 to 30, jointly hosted by Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania.

CAF revealed that after deep discussions with the three countries, it settled on venues for key matches. Dar es Salaam’s Benjamin Mkapa Stadium will kick things off on August 2, Uganda’s Mandela Stadium will stage the third-place clash, and Nairobi will crown the champion.

The group stage will be played across Nairobi, Dar es Salaam, Kampala, and Zanzibar, bringing the tournament closer to fans in different regions. In total, 19 national teams made up of players from their domestic leagues will be taking part.

This format provides a stage for homegrown footballers who don’t play abroad, making CHAN a unique chance to shine for many.

This announcement has been welcomed in Kenya as a big moment, especially considering that the last time the country hosted a major football final was over 40 years ago. For local players, fans, and investors in the game, CHAN is more than a tournament—it’s a statement of progress.

CAF is expected to release the full match schedule, ticketing plans, and fan engagement programs soon, as preparations shift into high gear ahead of what promises to be a thrilling football event.
