- Kajiado West MP George Sunkuyia has been arrested over claims of using a fake academic certificate.
- EACC says he presented a forged KCSE result to join JKUAT in 2012.
- The certificate showed a mean grade of C+ and was submitted to the university’s registrar.
- Sunkuyia now faces charges like forgery, giving false details, and using fake documents.
- He was picked up early Monday by EACC and could be charged in court the same day.
- The case highlights the agency’s continued fight against fake documents in public offices.
Drama unfolded on Monday morning as officers from the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) arrested George Sunkuyia, the MP for Kajiado West. The lawmaker is now at the centre of serious allegations involving forged academic credentials.
EACC claims that Sunkuyia used a fake KCSE certificate to gain admission to Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) back in 2012. The document, with serial number 2988068, showed a mean grade of C+ and was reportedly handed to the university’s academic registrar on January 30, 2012.
The anti-graft body insists the certificate was not issued by KNEC, but was instead a fabricated document passed off as real.
Court Awaits as MP Faces Serious Charges
Details in the charge sheet, seen by KBC Digital, reveal that Sunkuyia is now facing several charges, including forgery, providing false information, and presenting fake documents to a public body.
EACC confirmed that the MP was arrested early Monday and that court arrangements were underway. If convicted, Sunkuyia could face jail time and also risk being removed from office.
This arrest adds to the growing list of public officials being investigated for academic fraud, as EACC continues pushing to clean up leadership and protect public trust.
More updates are expected as the case unfolds in court.
