When Nathaniel Odongo walked into a Class 1 classroom back in 2000, he likely didn’t know how tough his academic path would become. As the years passed, he found himself repeating Class 3, then Class 4, and later Class 5—each of them twice. For many students, such setbacks would be enough to throw in the towel, but not for Nathaniel.
Though he dropped out in Form 2, something within him refused to settle for unfinished dreams. In a brave move, he returned to school in 2012—this time not to continue from where he left, but to repeat Class 7 and rebuild his path.
From Repeating Classes to Walking the Graduation Stage Abroad
With resilience as his guide, Nathaniel enrolled at Orero High School and studied from 2014 to 2017, pushing through the hardship and self-doubt that lingered from his past failures. Yet, the road was still full of obstacles.
While pursuing higher education at Masinde Muliro University, he was suspended for two academic years between 2019 and 2021. This was another major setback that could have ended everything. But Nathaniel didn’t stop believing.
Fast forward to today—he’s proudly wearing a graduation gown at the Norwegian University of Life Sciences (NMBU), one of the most respected universities in Norway. From class repetitions to dropping out and facing suspension, his journey is now a symbol of endurance and hope.
Nathaniel’s story reminds us that it’s not how you start that defines your future—but how you choose to rise after each fall.
