Ruto Gov’t Pays Kitui Families KSh 52.6M for Wildlife Attacks Ahead of Ukambani Tour

  • KSh 52.6 million paid to 26 families affected by wildlife in Kitui.
  • Event held in Mutomo during Biological Diversity Day 2025.
  • Compensation covers deaths, injuries, and damaged property.

The government has released KSh 52.6 million to compensate families in Kitui County who suffered losses due to wildlife. A total of 26 households received this help during an official event held in Mutomo.

Funds Handed Over During Global Nature Day

The funds were handed over as part of the 2025 International Day for Biological Diversity. This year’s celebration was hosted in Kitui, where affected locals gathered for the ceremony.

Wildlife Ministry Sends Message of Hope

Dr. Shadrack Ngene, who represented the Ministry of Tourism and Wildlife, delivered the payment on behalf of Cabinet Secretary. The money is meant to cover deaths, injuries, and damage caused by wild animals.

Government Promises Long-Term Solutions

While presenting the funds, Dr. Ngene said the government is not only paying victims but also working on better ways to stop future wildlife conflicts.
“We’re ready to walk with communities to protect both people and nature,” he said.

Leaders Back Coexistence with Nature

The event brought together various leaders, including Deputy Governor Augustine Kanani, area MP Dr. Nyamai, and MCAs. The message was clear—peace with nature is still possible if both conservation and safety are balanced.

Deputy Governor Speaks on Justice and Nature

Deputy Governor Kanani said the payout is not just money—it’s also a way of giving justice to the families and promoting peaceful living between humans and wildlife.
“This support confirms our shared mission to live in harmony with our environment,” he said.

The day’s theme, “Harmony with Nature and Sustainable Development,” encouraged counties, national government, and the public to work together. The Wildlife Ministry also promised to increase community education and protect animal habitats.
