The 2025 Kip Keino Classic, a major athletics event, has changed its location from Nyayo National Stadium to the Ulinzi Sports Complex in Nairobi.
This move happened because the new running track at Nyayo Stadium is not yet finished. Even with the change, important international athletes are still set to compete on May 31, 2025.
The organizers had to find a new spot because both Nyayo and Kasarani stadiums are currently closed for renovations, showing the difficulties in getting ready for big sports events.
Sports CS Salim Mvurya has confirmed that the renovations at the hosting arena, Ulinzi Sports Complex will be done by Saturday.
Speaking during the media briefing,CS Mvurya urges Kenyans to turn out in large numbers to support the Kenyan athletes.
“This is an opportunity for Kenyans to continue to shine, let’s come and support our athletes on this I wish our athletes all the best in the competition.”
However,Salim Mvurya also noted that the government is set to spend Kshs.300 million for the sixth edition of the Kipkeino classic.
Additionally, Mvurya added on that he is expecting a total of 10,000 spectators on the events day.He has also urged fans to showcase true sportsmanship by avoiding vandalism of stadia facilities.
Some of the events that will be in action at Ulinzi Sports Complex are 100 meters both men and women and the 200 meters at where raw speed meets heart.
The stage is also set for the javelin category which promises a breathtaking clash of strength, skill, and sheer willpower. As spears fly and distances are shattered, only the boldest will be standing tall.
Power and Pride will also be witnessed in the 400 meters,800,1500,3000 and 5000 meters race.
The Kip Keino Classic is recognized as the biggest athletics competition in Africa. It is named in honor of Kipchoge Keino, a legendary Kenyan runner who won Olympic gold medals in the 1960s and 1970s.
This event is an important part of the World Athletics Continental Tour, which gives it significant international attention. The event is set for May 31, 2025, and promises to be an exciting day for sports fans.
The event will also be televised live on NTV.
