- Bomet East MP Richard Yegon and Mwala MP Vincent Musau back Ruto’s 2027 reelection bid.
- Their pro-Ruto remarks sparked tension at a public event, especially among opposition supporters.
- Several Azimio-allied MPs say the country needs new leadership, citing betrayal by the Kenya Kwanza regime.
- Kalonzo Musyoka is fronted as the most suitable candidate to bring change in 2027.
- MPs also criticized recent IEBC appointments and defended Gachagua’s removal as unconstitutional.
During a public event, Bomet East MP Richard Yegon and Mwala MP Vincent Musau faced an unfriendly crowd after voicing their strong support for President William Ruto’s second term bid. The two leaders, who have remained loyal to the president, defended his leadership and insisted that Ruto would complete ten years in office.
Yegon Says Kalonzo Has Tried and Failed
Yegon told opposition leaders to recognize Ruto’s position as head of state and stop dismissing other communities. He pointed out that Kalonzo Musyoka has contested for the presidency many times without success, and should now approach national politics with respect.
“Kalonzo has been on the ballot many times but never succeeded. Let other regions also bring forward their leaders. It shouldn’t always be two communities dominating,” Yegon said, drawing mixed reactions from the crowd.
Musau Touts Ruto’s Development Track Record
Mwala MP Vincent Musau echoed Yegon’s words, saying he was proud of his support for President Ruto. He claimed that his constituency had seen meaningful development under the Kenya Kwanza administration.
“The work Ruto has done in my area speaks for itself. I have no regrets supporting him,” Musau said. He added that opposition voices offer no alternative, only repeating “Ruto must go” with no real solutions.
Azimio MPs: Kenya Needs New Leadership
On the other side, Embakasi Central MP Benjamin Gathiru argued that the Ruto-led government had failed to meet the expectations of ordinary Kenyans. He accused the administration of eroding people’s dignity and called for new leaders to take charge.
“This government has let the people down. Time has come to bring in fresh ideas and restore hope,” Gathiru said.
Calls for Kalonzo to Take Over in 2027
A group of MPs allied to Wiper Party rallied behind Kalonzo Musyoka, saying 2027 is his rightful time to lead the country. They insisted that waiting until 2032 would be a mistake and that Kalonzo has all it takes to fix the nation’s problems.
Machakos County MP Joyce Kamene said,
“Kalonzo has the leadership experience and diplomatic skill we need. 2027 is his moment.”
They were backed by MPs Joshua Kimilu (Kaiti), Charles Nguna (Mwingi West), Thaddeus Nzambia (Kilome), and others.
IEBC Appointments, Gachagua Ouster Stir Fresh Debate
Kathiani MP Robert Mbui criticized the recent appointment of IEBC officials, saying the process lacked transparency and fairness. Meanwhile, Naivasha MP Jane Kihara accused President Ruto of turning his back on the very region that voted for him overwhelmingly in 2022.
She also came to the defence of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, saying the courts had confirmed his removal was illegal.
“We were right all along. The court has spoken. Kindiki should now step aside,” Kihara said.
