Former Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Mithika Linturi has promised to name the real people behind the fake fertilizer saga that has angered farmers across Kenya. He declared, “I’m tired of carrying the burden for another man,” hinting he may expose those responsible soon.
Fake Fertilizer Found in Government Program
The scandal stems from the National Fertilizer Subsidy Programme, meant to offer cheaper fertilizer to farmers. But some of the fertilizer turned out to be either poor quality or completely fake. KEBS later confirmed over 5,800 bags were found in NCPB stores across the country.
Majority Point Fingers at Linturi
Public blame has largely landed on Linturi. A poll by TIFA revealed that 53% of those who followed the story believe Linturi should be held responsible. The numbers show a serious lack of trust and rising anger among Kenyans.
Legal Pressure Piles Up
The Law Society of Kenya has already taken the matter to court. They’ve sued Linturi and other government officials, accusing them of mismanaging the program and ignoring legal guidelines. The case is expected to spark wider investigations.
Linturi Denies Fault, Blames Poor Reporting
Linturi has defended himself, saying the fertilizer was not fake but just substandard. He also said journalists had twisted facts and added that the fertilizer distribution happened while he was away on duty abroad, distancing himself from direct involvement.
All eyes are now on Linturi as the public waits to hear the names he has promised to release. If he speaks, it could cause big changes politically and legally. Farmers and leaders alike want the truth—and someone to be held accountable.
