Parek Maduot Appointed as New CECAFA Interim President

  • Maduot takes charge on a short term period after a decision made by the CECAFA Executive meeting.
  • He also serves as the current president of the South Africa Football Association.

South Sudan’s Augustino Parek Maduot has been appointed as the new interim President of the Council of East and Central Football Associations (CECAFA).

Mr. Maduot takes over on a short-term period after a decision was made during a CECAFA Executive Meeting held via zoom today, holding the capacity that was under the leadership of outgoing President Wallace Karia who resigned following his admission to the Executive Committee of the Confederation of African Football (CAF).

Maduot who also doubles as the President of South Sudan’s Football Association (SSFA) previously has been serving as the vice president of CECAFA will now be deputized by Burundi’s Football Federation head Alexander Muyenge.

Former Football Kenya Federation (FKF) deputy president Doris Petra also serves as the CECAFA Exco member while Auka Gacheo remains to serve as the secretary general, a post formerly headed by Nicholas Musonye.

This change comes days after the regional football body announced plans to stage the CECAFA Senior Challenge Cup in June this year in Nairobi, a competition for senior national men teams which has been on a 5-year hiatus.
