Ruto Fulfils Education Promise to Nairobi Girls, Unveils Bold Plans for Learning Access

  • President Ruto has honoured his pledge to sponsor 170 needy girls to join PCEA Booth Girls’ High School.
  • The sponsorship covers school fees, uniforms, and personal necessities.

President William Ruto has followed through on his March 2025 commitment to support the education of vulnerable girls from Nairobi. On Wednesday, he welcomed 170 beneficiaries from the city’s 17 constituencies—ten from each—to State House, Nairobi, for a special breakfast meeting.

The learners, drawn from disadvantaged backgrounds, are now set to join PCEA Booth Girls’ High School in Ngong Forest, thanks to a full scholarship personally funded by the Head of State.

“I asked the Ministry of Education to identify deserving girls. Their fees, uniforms, and shopping will be covered entirely,” said President Ruto, reaffirming his dedication to making education accessible regardless of status or background.

Support for School and Teaching Staff

Beyond individual learners, Ruto noted he is already supporting more than 200 students at PCEA Booth, further underlining his investment in girl-child education. He also announced that the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) had deployed more teachers to the institution, boosting its capacity to offer quality learning.

Several Nairobi legislators—including Phelix Odiwuor (Lang’ata), Beatrice Elachi (Dagoretti North), Anthony Oluoch (Mathare), Timothy Wanyonyi (Westlands), and Woman Representative Esther Passaris—joined the President during the event.

Massive Classroom Project Underway

As part of the transition to the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC), Ruto unveiled the government’s plan to construct 23,000 classrooms countrywide. Nairobi alone will receive 240 of them, with Ksh 1 billion already committed to the capital’s education infrastructure.

“These classrooms will be ready in 90 days. We want to ensure smooth movement from Junior to Senior Secondary,” the President declared.

He also pledged to construct a new school in Mabatini, Mathare, where access to education remains a persistent challenge.

Unified Scholarship Framework in the Works

Ruto revealed that the national government and counties will soon launch a harmonised system for bursary and scholarship disbursement. He tasked the Ministry of Education with working alongside the Council of Governors to craft a legally binding framework that avoids duplication and ensures efficient delivery.

“Education is the greatest equaliser. We must make sure all deserving children get the support they need,” said the President.

Call for Unity and Focus on Development

Away from education, Ruto shared updates on the Affordable Housing Programme, stating that progress was on track and that beneficiaries would soon receive keys to their homes. He also urged leaders to shift focus from politics to service delivery.

“This is not the season for political games. Let’s dedicate our energy to transforming this country,” he said.

Lang’ata MP Phelix Odiwuor, popularly known as Jalang’o, praised the President’s generosity and personal involvement.

“You’ve impacted many families. This is commendable,” he stated.

Dagoretti North MP Beatrice Elachi added that Ruto’s engagement with Nairobi’s grassroots was unprecedented, while Mathare’s Anthony Oluoch encouraged the girls to take full advantage of the opportunity.
