President William Ruto has commissioned the Kamukunji Technical and Vocational College, kicking off his tour of Nairobi with a focus on expanding access to skills-based education.

Speaking during the launch, Ruto emphasized that vocational training is key to economic growth, noting that more young people need access to practical skills.

“This institution is playing a vital role in equipping young people with essential skills,” he said. “We must expand it further by introducing more training areas in fields like construction, automotive, electrical, and engineering.”

Government Funds Expansion to Accommodate More Students

To support the growth of the college, Sh50 million has been set aside for new facilities, with construction expected to start by June 2025.

“I am committing Sh50 million to this expansion, and I want the work to begin by June,” Ruto declared.

Once completed, the new facilities will increase student capacity, allowing more learners from Kamukunji, Eastleigh, and surrounding areas to access quality vocational training.

Entrepreneurial Hub for Young Innovators

Beyond technical training, Ruto revealed plans to establish a business incubator at the college in partnership with the African Development Bank (AfDB). The center will provide resources and mentorship to aspiring entrepreneurs, helping them develop sustainable businesses.

UDA-ODM Pact: A Push for Joint Development

Ruto’s visit comes shortly after the signing of a cooperation agreement between the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) and Orange Democratic Movement (ODM).

The agreement focuses on bipartisan efforts to accelerate national development, particularly in areas such as:

Education – Strengthening TVET programs.
Infrastructure – Expanding key projects.
Youth Empowerment – Creating job opportunities and business support.

This partnership is expected to shape governance policies and enhance service delivery across the country.
