- Protests erupted in Nairobi against his Ksh.120 million pledge to Jesus Winner Chapel.
President William Ruto on Sunday reaffirmed his commitment to supporting religious institutions, despite growing criticism over his continued church donations. Speaking at AIC Fellowship Annex in Eldoret, where he donated Ksh.20 million, Ruto dismissed his detractors, insisting that no one would stop him from giving to the church.
“My giving is towards God to fight drugs among youths by ensuring that the church plays a key role in promoting morality,” he said.
His remarks come in the wake of protests in Nairobi, where demonstrators clashed with police while attempting to storm Jesus Winner Chapel. The protestors opposed his recent Ksh.120 million pledge to the church.
Policy Contradiction Sparks Debate
In 2024, Ruto issued a directive barring public officers from participating in harambees as part of government austerity measures aimed at curbing corruption. However, his continued donations to churches have raised concerns, with critics questioning whether he is contradicting his own policies.
Despite the backlash, Ruto maintains that his contributions are in service to God and the nation, vowing to continue supporting religious institutions.
