Kenyan police have detained two suspects, a taxi driver and a club waiter, as investigations intensify into the brutal murder of British businessman Campbell Scott, whose body was found stuffed in a sack in Makongo Forest, Makueni County.

Scott, 58, was reported missing on February 17, shortly after walking out of the JW Marriott Hotel in Westlands, where he was attending a three-day business workshop.

Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) revealed that Scott was last seen at a club in Westlands, after which he vanished.

Last Moments and Discovery of the Body

CCTV footage shows Scott leaving the JW Marriott Hotel with an unidentified man dressed in a white T-shirt and blue jeans before entering a vehicle.

His decomposing body was discovered on February 22 by a local herder in Makongo Forest, along the Wote-Machakos road, nearly 110 kilometers southeast of Nairobi.

“His hands and legs were bound with a green nylon rope, which indicates he was likely murdered elsewhere before being dumped in the remote location,” a police source stated.

Key Suspects and Ongoing Investigations

Authorities have since traced and detained the taxi driver who ferried Scott on the night he disappeared, as well as a club waiter from the Westlands club he visited.

At least six individuals, including hotel staff and security personnel, have recorded statements as police piece together his last movements and possible interactions before his disappearance.

International Involvement and Next Steps

Scott was a senior director at FICO, a data analytics company, and had traveled to Nairobi for a business meeting with officials from the UK, US, and several African countries.

The UK High Commission in Nairobi is working closely with local authorities, while the Foreign Office in London has assured Scott’s family of their full support.

“The tragic loss of our colleague Campbell Scott deeply saddens us. Our thoughts are with his family and loved ones during this difficult time,” FICO said in a statement.

His remains are expected to be transferred to Nairobi for an autopsy, which will provide further clues about the cause of death. Meanwhile, police continue interrogating suspects and analyzing forensic evidence to uncover the motive behind the murder.
