The Selection Panel tasked with recruiting the Chairperson and Members of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has received a total of 1,848 applications for the vacant positions.
The application process officially closed on Saturday, 15th February 2025, at 5:00 PM, marking the beginning of the verification and shortlisting process.
Verification Process Begins
In a press statement, Panel Chairperson Dr. Nelson Makanda confirmed that the recruitment team has begun reviewing applications before publishing a long list of all applicants.
“By the deadline, we had received 1,848 applications, including those hand-delivered to the Secretariat on the 3rd floor of County House Building, Parliament Road, and those submitted online in PDF format to [email protected],” Dr. Makanda stated.
He reassured the public that the Selection Panel is committed to a fair, transparent, and merit-based process. He emphasized that Kenyans would be updated at every stage of the recruitment.
Next Steps in the Selection Process
Following the verification of applications, the panel will release a long list of all candidates who met the submission criteria. A shortlisting phase will then take place, where only the most qualified applicants will be selected for public interviews.
Once the interviews are concluded, the Selection Panel will forward nominations for approval by the relevant appointing authorities.
This recruitment is crucial for the country, as the new IEBC leadership will be responsible for preparing and overseeing the 2027 General Elections. Many Kenyans are closely monitoring the process, given the commission’s critical role in democratic governance.
