Mary Trizzer Obwor, a resident of Maweche village, Mombasa, succumbed to gunshot injuries at the Coast General Hospital. The injuries were allegedly inflicted by a Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) officer during a public dispute.

The tragedy unfolded when a KDF officer from the Mtongwe Military Base reportedly opened fire during a disagreement over unpaid matatu fare. Trizzer, who was at home, was hit by a stray bullet.

“She was shot in the stomach, and the bullet exited through her back, completely perforating her intestines,” her brother recounted.

The altercation also claimed the lives of two others, with one person critically injured.

Call for Justice

The family, grieving the loss of their loved one, has expressed frustration over what they perceive as a lack of action from authorities.

“Our pleas seem to be falling on deaf ears with each passing day,” Trizzer’s brother stated.

Bullets retrieved from the scene were reportedly identified as those issued to KDF personnel by a Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) officer.
