Rigathi Gachagua's Impeachment Trial Halted as DP is Hospitalized
  • Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s impeachment trial was paused after he failed to appear for the afternoon session, reportedly due to illness.
  • Gachagua’s legal team stated that he had been admitted to Karen Hospital after falling ill during the lunch break.

The impeachment trial of Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua took an unexpected turn on Thursday when proceedings were halted after Gachagua failed to attend the afternoon session.

According to his legal team, led by Senior Counsel Paul Muite, the Deputy President had fallen ill during the lunch break and checked himself into Karen Hospital for treatment. Gachagua had been scheduled to testify in his defense that afternoon as he faces multiple charges, including corruption, insubordination, and divisive politics.

The sudden development has left the trial temporarily suspended, with no clear timeline on when it will resume. Sources close to the Deputy President have not provided further details on his condition.

With Gachagua’s unexpected hospitalization, the impeachment trial is on hold, adding another layer of uncertainty to an already highly charged political saga. The Senate will have to wait for his recovery before the proceedings can continue.
