The Federation of Women Lawyers in Kenya (FIDA-Kenya) has strongly condemned the gruesome discovery of the mutilated bodies of women in Mukuru in Njenga on Friday, July 12, calling the incident “unacceptable.”

In a statement on Friday night, FIDA Chairman Christine Kungu expressed the organization’s anger and sadness due to the discovery of six female corpses in Kware, Embakasi, Nairobi County.

The initial number of bodies discovered has risen to ten, causing shock in the community and the nation.

The scene at the Quarry dump was very scary. Residents flocked to the area as the sad news spread, and witnessed the disturbing nature of body bags being unearthed.

All ten bodies were found dismembered, each packed in green sacks, a symbol of the brutality that had been inflicted on the women.

The Department of Criminal Investigation (DCI) has launched a detailed investigation into six badly decomposed bodies found in Mukuru kwa Njenga. DCI Director Mohamed Amin reported that Embakasi Division police responded urgently to a call about the shocking discovery in an abandoned, waterlogged quarry that is now being used as a landfill.

The bodies, wrapped in nylon and tied with rope, were transported to the City Mortuary.

Homicide detectives and forensics officers are now working hard to analyze samples and identify the victims. The crime scene remains cordoned off as authorities ask for the public’s help in the ongoing investigation.

“This tragic incident is a stark reminder of the sexual and gender-based violence and violence faced by women in Kenya, many of which end up being femicides,” Kungu declared.

The horrific incident, with bodies in various stages of decomposition, produced a horrific image that has left the community and the nation in limbo.
