George Obama, the brother of Barack Obama, spent many years living in the Huruma slums in Nairobi, the capital city of Kenya.
Although George and Barack had different mothers, they are both the sons of Barack Hussein Obama, who died in a car accident in 1982.
George Obama first met his well-known brother when he was five years old. The two got back in touch in 2006 when the US president visited in Nairobi as part of a trip through East Africa.
This is a complete contrast to Barack Obama’s life, as KenyanTrend will focus on George Obama’s life and how he managed to survive despite living in the slums.
George Obama’s Struggle To Survive in Poverty
He has recounted a life in his native country that is utterly unlike Barack Obama’s.
“My brother has risen to be the leader of the most powerful country in the world. Here in Kenya, my aim is to be a leader amongst the poorest people on earth—those who live in the slums.”
George Obama, who grew up in poverty, witnessed his half-brother’s rise from Harvard to the Senate and ultimately the White House.
Struggling With Hiss Studies
Three of his half-siblings, including Barack, were born to two American mothers.
Although George’s mother, Jael, is also a Kenyan, he was unable to benefit from the same opportunities as his half-brothers and sister, the bulk of whom have studied and lived overseas.
