Award-winning journalist Sharon Barang’a has joined China Global Television Network (CGTN) after leaving TV47.
Barang’a announced her new job on Wednesday in a statement on social media. She said that she was “excited to start a new chapter in my career” at CGTN.
Barang’a joined TV47 in October 2020. She previously worked at NTV, where she was sacked in 2019.
The journalist is known for her reporting on education, health, and children’s affairs. She has won several awards for her work, including the ICFJ’s Early Childhood Development Reporting Contest in 2016 and the Mandela Washington Fellowship funded by the U.S. Department of State in 2017.
Barang’a’s departure from TV47 was emotional. She said that she had “cried” and “crewed” on her last day at the station, which had become “like family” to her.
She is now looking forward to her new challenge at CGTN. “To everyone who has been following up on my journey, cheering me up & praying for me…Asanteni sana,” she wrote in her statement.
CGTN is a Chinese state-owned international television network. It broadcasts in over 100 languages and is available in over 200 countries and regions. CGTN’s mission is to “tell China’s story to the world.”
