Kenyan singer Bahati has accused music distribution company Ziiki Media of hacking his YouTube channel and deleting his collaboration with Rwandan artist Bruce Melodie.

Bahati took to social media on Wednesday, June 21 to share his frustration, calling Ziiki Media “fraudsters” and urging other artists to stay away from the platform.

“Another YouTube strikes? Now Ziiki Media people have gone ahead and removed #Diana feat @BruceMelodie from @Diana_Marua’s YouTube channel!” Bahati said in an Instagram post. “Dear fellow musicians, just like Harmonize told us, these people are malicious. They are here to mistreat our musicians!”

Ziiki Media denied Bahati’s allegations, saying that they had “no substance or explanation” to support them. The company also demanded an unconditional apology from Bahati and asked that he remove the offensive content from his social media posts.

Ziiki Media said that they have been distributing Bahati’s music since October 2020, through legally binding contracts signed by both parties. They said that failure to honour these obligations can lead to consequences that may be unfavourable for the party at fault.

The company also said that social media platforms are not the appropriate venues for resolving legal matters.

The dispute between Bahati and Ziiki Media is the latest in a series of controversies involving the music distribution company. In recent months, Ziiki Media has been accused of copyright infringement, unfair business practices, and censorship.
