Legendary Genge singer Jua Cali has revealed how he was once denied a corporate gig because he did not own a car.
In 2004, Jua Cali was called for an interview to endorse a popular product. He took a matatu from his home in Eastlands and then trekked from Nairobi City Center to Valley Road, where the interview was happening.
Upon getting to the interview, one of the panellists directly asked him what kind of car he was driving. Jua Cali was taken aback by the question, as he did not see how it was relevant to the endorsement.
He told the panellists that he did not own a car and that he had taken public transportation to the interview.
After the interview, Jua Cali was told that he would not be considered for the endorsement. He was disappointed, but he did not give up on his dream of becoming a successful musician.
Two years later, Jua Cali was offered a contract to become the brand ambassador for Motorola. This was a breakthrough for Jua Cali, and it helped to launch his career into the corporate world.
He was later hired as the brand ambassador for other brands, including Protex and Pilsner.

Apart from being a brand ambassador, Jua Kali worked as an electrician in the California area in Nairobi before he became famous.
