Barcelona’s president, Joan Laporta, has expressed his belief that the Nou Camp is Lionel Messi’s home as the club endeavors to secure his re-signing this summer.

While Messi’s contract with Paris Saint-Germain is set to expire soon, recent reports have suggested a potential move to Saudi Arabia. However, Laporta remains confident that Barcelona holds an advantage in negotiations due to the strong emotional bond Messi shares with the club, which he joined at the age of 13.

Messi-Barcelona  connection

Laporta stated, “History backs us, the feelings are too strong, we have 400 million fans around the world too.” He emphasized the immense support and global fanbase that Barcelona possesses, asserting that these factors, along with the club’s rich history, contribute to the special connection Messi feels towards Barcelona.

Although Messi departed Barcelona in 2021, his time in the French capital has reportedly presented challenges in terms of settling in. Laporta acknowledged the current situation, stating, “He is a Paris St-Germain player, and we have to wait until the end of the season, until it is over, and then we can talk more calmly about this.”

Laporta further emphasized the unique status and appeal of Barcelona, implying that the club holds greater allure for Messi compared to any potential move to Saudi Arabia. “With all due respect to Saudi Arabia, Barca is Barca, and it is home,” Laporta asserted.

The president’s comments reflect Barcelona’s determination to bring Messi back to the club and the confidence they have in their ability to re-establish a strong connection with the legendary Argentine forward. Laporta’s belief in the emotional ties between Messi and Barcelona, coupled with the club’s rich history and immense global following, strengthens their position in the negotiations.
