Assault on a Female Referee in Kajiado Tip of the Iceberg on the Rampant Hooliganism in Football.
Hooliganism in Kenyan football has been widespread starting from the FKF Premier League to other local tournaments.
Recently, Kenyans were treated to a rude shock when players from a team participating in the Football Made in Kajiado tournament assaulted a referee under unclear circumstances.
One football enthusiast identified the team as Rift Valley Soccer Academy and asked the teams coach, identified as Philip Coaches to take stern action against the said players.
“Philip Coaches it’s high time you tame your Rifti valley soccer academy ( RVSA ) players. This is uncouth behavior from your players.
Hope FOOTBALL MADE IN KAJIADO will take the required action to perpetrators of this act of hooliganism.” Wrote a football supporter in one of the local football groups on Facebook.
In a comment on one post in the same group, one football fan identified as Wuod Ongare was critical of the organizers of the tournament and termed it as poorly organized.
“This is a certain useless Tournament in Kajiado called Fmk Footballmadeinkajiado TOURNAMENT…
A Tournament without planning…no ambulance, no Security, uwanja imejaa matope utdhani ni Sewerage resting place. (The playing field is covered with mud you would think it’s a sewerage resting place.)
Organizers sasa ku boost na kujigamba vile wame Organize Tournament. (Organisers focus on boasting that they have organized a tournament.). Hao, bora pesa wamepata ya registration and sponsorships deals game itachezwa ata kama its raining cats and dogs (As long as they have collected registration money from participating teams and attracted sponsors, games will be played even if it is raining cats and dogs).
Very useless Tournament….
Bythawei Finals inachezwa bila Semis…ofisi ilishapanga wale wanacheza finals (By the way, organizers chose the finalists and no semifinals are played in the tournament.” Ongare lamented.
This incident follows the recent sad event in Kakamega when fans assaulted a referee in a match pitting Kakamega Homeboyz against AFC Leopards at Bukhungu Stadium in an FKF Premier League match.
FKF Leagues and Competitions committee heavily sanctioned AFC Leopards for the same by awarding the abandoned game to the home team and docking Leopards a further 3 points from their season’s tally.
Ingwe was also fined Kshs 500,000 and ordered to pay the medical expenses of the referee of the day.
Football lovers called the FKF Kajiado branch to hold the perpetrators of the act accountable as the tournament is affiliated to the football organizing body.
