Defending champions, St Antony stormed into the final on the penultimate day of the KSSSA games after seeing off Mang’u in the shootout in the first semifinal of the day. The game ended in a one-all draw as Mang’u proved a thorn in the flesh of the national champions.
In the other semifinal, Musingu High School, buoyed by their Isukuti playing fanbase beat Meru School 2-0 to book a final place. The final pits two coaches who are familiar with each other in Mike Malungu and Kevin Lugalia.
Lugalia who was Malungu’s student will seek to outwit his teacher drawing inspiration from his impressive CV. He (Lugalia) is a teacher of English and doubles up as The Kenya Hockey Youth manager. He has led Kenya to a Bronze Medal in Africa Youth games and is set to lead the 5-aside team as they compete in Olympics games to be played in Argentina.
Elsewhere, two debutants will face off in the rugby 15’s when All Saints take on Butula from Busia. All Saints beat St Anthony Kitale 18-5 while Butula saw off Ofafa Jericho 18-0 in the other semifinal.
The two schools are debutants at the national games hence, the 15s title will have a new name in the history books.
