Real Madrid’s talismanic striker, Karim Benzema, is reportedly set to extend his stay at the club for another year, with an agreement in place to keep him at the Santiago Bernabeu until the summer of 2024.

The news comes as a significant boost for Los Blancos, who rely heavily on the Frenchman’s goalscoring prowess.

Karim Benzema’s Ballon d’Or

Benzema, who won the Ballon d’Or award in 2021, has been in impressive form this season, scoring 14 goals in La Liga and sitting second only to Robert Lewandowski in the Spanish league’s goal-scoring charts. The 35-year-old’s contribution has been vital to Real Madrid‘s push for the La Liga title this season, and the club will be keen to hold on to him for as long as possible.

The Daily Mirror reports that Benzema’s new contract extension will include a clause that allows him to leave the club in 2024, giving him the freedom to explore other options if he chooses to do so. However, the likelihood of the striker leaving Madrid at the end of the deal is uncertain, as Benzema has always maintained a strong connection with the Spanish capital and the Real Madrid faithful.

Benzema’s longevity and consistency have been key factors in his success at Real Madrid, where he has scored a remarkable 267 goals in 537 appearances across all competitions. The Frenchman has been a part of several trophy-winning campaigns with the club, including four Champions League titles, three La Liga titles, and four Club World Cups.
