Chelsea Football Club have reportedly held preliminary discussions with former Paris Saint-Germain and Tottenham Hotspur coach, Mauricio Pochettino, over the possibility of him taking up the managerial position at Stamford Bridge. According to sources close to the club, Pochettino is one of five candidates being considered at this stage of the process.
Chelsea admiration
Chelsea has had a long-standing admiration for Pochettino and had previously inquired about his availability when Thomas Tuchel left the club in September. However, the Argentinian tactician was still contracted to PSG at the time and was unavailable for talks.
Sources also suggest that Pochettino is not in a hurry to take up a new job and is taking time to assess his options as he awaits the right opportunity. The 51-year-old has been out of work since parting ways with PSG in July 2022.
Pochettino has been approached by Real Madrid twice in the past, and he has also turned down several offers from clubs in various European leagues in recent months. He is considered one of the most sought-after coaches in the football world, thanks to his impressive track record and tactical nous.
With Chelsea on the lookout for a new manager, Pochettino could be an excellent fit for the club’s ambitions. The London side has enjoyed a lot of success in recent years, winning the UEFA Champions League and the UEFA Super Cup in 2021, and the Club World Cup in 2022. However, the club has struggled in the Premier League, finishing outside of the top four last season.
Pochettino to stabilize Chelsea
Pochettino’s appointment could bring stability to Chelsea’s coaching staff and offer the team the tactical flexibility needed to compete at the highest level. While there is still no official word from either party, it remains to be seen whether Pochettino will take up the managerial role at Stamford Bridge.
