Menengai Oilers had a dominant performance, scoring eight tries, five conversions, and one penalty to beat Nondies 53-5 in the Enterprise Cup quarters played at Moi Showground.

Denis Abukuse, a Kenya 7s International, settled seamlessly into the team, scoring the first try of the match in the tenth minute, just under the sticks. Geoffrey Ominde added the conversion, effortlessly giving the Oilers an early 7-0 lead. Soon after, Davis Otundo, the midfield partner of Abukuse, went over the try line twice in quick succession, extending their lead further. Unfortunately, Ominde was not able to convert either try.

Although the Oilers had been out of action for almost a month, they showed some rust early on, but their confidence grew with every play. Tyson Maina and Steve Ochieng’ closed the first half with a try each, with Ominde successfully converting Ocieng’s try. However, Nondies managed to score an unconverted try from an intercept, ending the first half with a scoreboard reading 31-5 in favor of the Oilers.

The second half started with Ominde successfully adding to the scoreboard with a penalty very early on, but the game slowed down until the final 20 minutes. Three quick tries from substitutes Davis Nyaundi, Sheldon Wanjala, and Austin Sikutwa, coupled with two conversions from Abukuse, secured the Oilers’ dominant win with the final score being 53-5.

On the other hand, the Oilers’ second string had a disappointing outing against KCB II in the Mwamba Cup. They lost 41-6 at the Lion’s Den in Ruaraka, with very few bright spots to take away from the match. It was a tough outing for the second-string team, and they will need to bounce back quickly before their next match.
